Jake Hotchberg came to Mouradian Jewelers in May of 2016 to buy an engagement ring (his very first large jewelry purchase) for his soon-to-be-fiance. Since for most men, the first major jewelry buying experience comes with an engagement, and the process is still a little scary, we asked Jake to share his experience.
What were you looking for in an engagement ring?
“I honestly didn’t have any knowledge about the process of buying an engagement ring or the different options. I just generally knew I was looking for something a little bit unique with more of a handmade feel then what I had seen in the bigger stores like Jared or Kay’s.”
Did you know much about diamonds or jewelry shopping before you started the process?
“I knew nothing about diamonds when I first showed up to Mouradian. Harout took the time to explain to me all the various elements of the diamonds and how they would affect the way the diamond looked and would cost.”
What was your “story”? How did buying “the ring” go for you?
“My fiancee and I had been together for about 3 years and I felt it was time to take the plunge as one might say. I found that I often go to bed before 11 anyway so I might as well give up on fun in general.”
“I bought the ring from Harout and found him to be extremely helpful in finding the right ring. I ended up deciding on a ring that was well under the original budget figure I gave Harout and he was not pushy at all about trying to upsell or change my mind in any way. I did not get the ring sized at the time of purchase and Harout was also excellent when it came time to size the ring. He turned it around very quickly on short notice as we needed to leave town suddenly.”
Would you recommend Harout to a friend?
“100% yes. We’ll be buying our wedding rings from him, too.”
